Private landlords and letting agents are being urged to comply with EU legislation on energy.
The message comes from the Consumer and Trading Standards Service (CaTS) in South Lanarkshire, which is to campaign to implement Energy Performance Certificates for property being sold or let.
EPCs rate the energy performance of buildings on a scale of A-G, similar to energy information on white goods. The Regulations are a key aspect of action to meet climate change targets.
Working closely with the Council’s landlord registration team – which currently monitors around 9000 properties – CaTS officers will ensure leaflets highlighting the requirements are issued and will follow up on anyone who doesn’t comply.
Divisional Trading Standards Officer, Jim Sinclair, said: “Owners have a legal obligation to supply a copy of a valid Energy Performance Certificate when the building is to be sold or let.”
